Privacy Policy
How SwissArmyTechTools.com handles your data.
1. Overview
SwissArmyTechTools.com ("we", "our", or "the site") provides free technical utilities for IT professionals. This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and your rights in relation to that information. We are committed to data minimisation — we do not collect information we do not need.
No account is required to use any tool on this site. No email address, name, or personal identifier is collected as a condition of use.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
Certain tools ask you to enter data such as an IP address, domain name, MAC address, or network range. This input is used solely to generate the tool's result and is not retained, stored, or associated with any identifier.
2.2 Technical request data
When you visit this site, standard web request information is transmitted to our hosting provider (Cloudflare, Inc.) as part of normal internet communication. This includes your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and pages visited. Cloudflare may retain this data in accordance with their own privacy policy for security and abuse prevention purposes. We do not have access to individual visitor logs.
2.3 Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-preserving analytics service that does not set cookies and does not track users across sites. Aggregate metrics such as page view counts and broad geographic regions may be collected. No personally identifiable information is included in these analytics.
3. Tool-specific data processing
3.1 Client-side tools
The following tools operate entirely within your browser. No data you enter is transmitted to our servers or any third party:
- Password Generator — passwords are generated locally using your browser's Web Crypto API
- Subnet Calculator — all calculations are performed client-side
- MAC Address OUI Lookup — lookups are performed against a locally bundled database
3.2 IP address lookup tool
The "What Is My IP" tool reads your public IP address from the incoming network request at
Cloudflare's edge and returns it to your browser. Your IP address is displayed to you
but is not stored in any database, log file, or analytics system beyond standard Cloudflare
infrastructure logs described in section 2.2. The HTTP response is set to
Cache-Control: no-store
to prevent caching.
3.3 DNS propagation checker
When you use the DNS propagation checker, the domain name and record type you enter are sent to our Cloudflare Pages Function, which queries four public DNS resolvers (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Google 8.8.8.8, Quad9 9.9.9.9, and OpenDNS 208.67.222.222) via DNS-over-HTTPS. The domain name you entered is sent to these third-party DNS providers as part of the lookup. We do not store the domain name or the results. These providers have their own privacy policies governing their DNS query logs.
3.4 Sensitive data
You should not enter passwords, private keys, API tokens, personal identification numbers, or other sensitive personal data into any tool on this site. Our tools are designed for technical networking and security purposes, not for handling confidential personal information.
4. Advertising and cookies
This site does not currently serve advertisements and does not set advertising cookies.
We intend to apply for Google AdSense in the future to support the continued operation of the site. If approved, Google AdSense may serve personalised advertisements and use cookies or similar browser storage technologies to measure ad performance and personalise ad content based on your browsing history. We will update this policy and provide appropriate consent mechanisms before any advertising cookies are deployed.
Cloudflare Web Analytics (currently in use) does not set cookies.
5. Third-party services
This site uses the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting, CDN, DDoS protection, and edge functions. Cloudflare may process request metadata in accordance with their privacy policy.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — privacy-preserving, cookieless page view analytics.
- Public DNS resolvers (Cloudflare DNS, Google DNS, Quad9, OpenDNS) — used by the DNS propagation checker tool only, when you initiate a lookup.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.
6. Data retention
We do not maintain a database of user activity or tool inputs. Tool results are transient — they exist in your browser session and are not stored server-side. Any data retained by infrastructure providers (Cloudflare) in standard access logs is subject to their own retention policies.
7. Your rights
Because we do not maintain personal data records, there is generally no data to access, correct, or delete on our end. If you believe we hold personal data about you, or if you have a complaint about our data handling, please contact us at [email protected].
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law (GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA). Given the minimal nature of our data processing, these rights are unlikely to be directly applicable, but we respect all requests made in good faith.
8. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us and we will address the matter promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
